Removing Virtual HDD / Datastore

Hi,

VMware noob who's inherited a perconfigured system here -

System = vCenter Server 4.0

I have a datasotre that's failed which contains a couple of virtual hard drives linked to virtual windows servers. These are not the OS drives on the servers but they are drives previously configured windows backup (server 2008 and 2003 backup).

As a result the servers have gone offline and when I try to boot the servers I get a message saying "virtual disk ' hard disk n is not accessible on the host:"

As the virtual servers are powered off can I just remove the drive through edit settings or will the windows OS complain that a disk is missing, and if so is there a way round this?

The datastore was an NFS store running on an old linux box which has died completely and can't be recovered, so i also need to know how to dis-associate this store from the servers.

Thakns for you help

Kipster
